The Advisory Council consists of representatives from each of the major commodity groups and constituencies with whom the Center interacts and serves. Members of the Council provide advice concerning research and extension programs at the LIHREC, as well as broad matters of policy and planning. The Advisory Council serves as a two-way communication device between the Director and the stakeholders and brings issues and concerns from the horticultural industry to the attention of the Director. The Council members act as advocates for the Research Lab and develop recommendations for long-term strategic planning. Members of the Council contribute their time to two- or four-year terms.
During the meeting on December 15, members of the professional staff at the LIHREC made brief presentations on their research and extension programs. Dale Moyer from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County and Julie Seghrouchni from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County reported for each of their respective county programs. At the end of the meeting, Dr. Hoffmann presented Margery Daughtrey with the Excellence in IPM Award for her contributions to statewide Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Bob Strubel received a Certificate of Appreciation from Dr. Bridgen for his leadership in Chairing the Advisory Council for the past 4 years.
